Job Description:
The College of Professional Studies is searching to fill the Assistant Director, Center for Online and Digital Learning. An ideal candidate for the position is a highly collaborative and goal-oriented instructional design professional a leader with significant experience in developing online educational experiences and managing a diverse team. This position requires expert knowledge of instructional design/development and applies best practices to create highly effective and engaging online learning experiences. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position works closely with academic program directors, faculty, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to ensure the development and delivery of high-quality, cutting-edge online programs.

With the other departmental leadership, the Assistant Director works to manage projects and oversee design for timely delivery and QA under tight timelines. The Assistant Director oversees teams that design and develop the instructional and multimedia components of online learning experiences for a variety of courses and programs. The position manages resources associated with the development of new and the refresh of existing online content. The position supervises the Instructional and Multimedia Design teams and Quality Assurance team.

Responsibilities:
  • Stays current with trends in online education and educational technology to leverage opportunities for continuous improvement of the engaging online learning experience.
  • Assist with planning and facilitating communities of practice for instructional design staff and online instructors.
  • Lead CODL in its strategic planning as a member of the leadership team.
  • Lead in the decision making and hiring related to the instructional design and multimedia design teams and quality assurance team.
  • Hire, supervise, train and mentor the managers in instructional and multimedia design, and quality assurance; as well as their teams as needed.
  • Collaboratively work with direct reports to set meaningful performance objectives and complete performance evaluations.
  • Identify resource needs and concerns and report to Executive Director.
  • Lead various functional committees, contribute to morning meetings as well as bi-weekly meetings.
  • Support staff development and engage in conflict resolution as needed.
  • Foster an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility that encourages creativity, collaboration, and positively contributes to the culture of the unit.
  • Stay current with leadership trends and skills.
  • Manage multiple complex courses, content, curriculum, and other product development and product improvement projects simultaneously.
  • In collaboration with project manager and instructional designer, establish individual course development plans identifying key milestones, resources and deliverables for each of the Center's course projects to ensure high-quality and efficient course development under tight timelines.
  • In collaboration with the project manager, draft course development work teams and schedules; monitor activity, and progress
  • Identify resources needed (both internal and external) to ensure deadlines are met and quality standards achieved.
  • Serve as liaison between all team members and other stakeholders and ensure projects run smoothly.
  • Meet routinely with Program Administrators to keep projects on track, discuss and implement strategies to continuous quality improvement of programs and curricula.
  • Oversee University design principles and accessibility strategies for online learning to ensure ADA compliance.
  • Collaborate with faculty and production team to design educational online courses
  • Define objectives and outline concepts for courses / curricula, defining the course medium, content delivery, assessments, accompanying materials, and complementary learning approaches
  • Collaborate with design team to create multimedia and instructional learning assets
  • Manage intake and organization of digital assets throughout course development process
  • Work with video production and graphics sources to produce course material and assist as needed with production and editing
  • Provide quality control by completing checklists related to the build phase
  • Contribute to the overall quality assurance process
  • Other duties as assigned
